Bio

Soledad Sanchez Valdez is a visual artist, scenographer and Assistant Professor of Scenic Design at The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. A native from Peru, her work explores the intersection and borders of space, materials, and human perception in Design as Performance. She has designed the scenery of several theatre productions at the University of Alabama, University of South Florida (Tampa), and Penn State University. Her interdisciplinary performance – art installation projects and workshops have been seen at the World Stage Design (Calgary, Canada 2022) and the USITT 2023 Conference (St. Louis, MO). Soledad is an active member of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) and the International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects, and Technicians (OISTAT) and serves as Curator for the United States Exhibition at the 2023 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space (Prague, Czech Republic). At the University of Alabama, she serves on the Diversity Equality and Inclusion committees at the University Faculty Senate and the Department of Theatre and Dance.
