Dr. Jennifer Feltman Appointed CARI Interim Director

CARI is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Jennifer Feltman as Interim Director! Jennifer Feltman, Associate Professor of Art History in the Department of Art & Art History, is an internationally recognized specialist in French Gothic architecture and sculpture, Feltman frequently collaborates with colleagues across the fields of art history, archaeology, museums, materials science, digital art, and computer science. Notably, she was the only American member of the Chantier scientifique de Notre-Dame, the interdisciplinary group of researchers charged by the French Ministry of Culture and CNRS to digitally document and study the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris during its restoration. Some of this research featured in the PBS -Nova documentary, The Lost Tombs of Notre-Dame (2024). She currently directs the Notre-Dame in Color project, an international collaborative project that brings together scientists, artists, and humanities researchers to enrich our understanding of the once-painted sculptures and multi-chromatic environment of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris. Feltman’s research has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Albertine Foundation, the Whiting Foundation, the Human-AI Foundation, and Google Summer of Code. For her contributions to the field of medieval art she was named the University of Alabama’s 2025 Blackmon-Moody Outstanding Professor.
