Check out the Dangerous Landscapes exhibit through September 24th, 2021 at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. This CARI Joint Pilot for Arts Research (JPAR) project was co-sponsored with the Alabama Life Research Institute and the Office for Research and Economic Development. In addition to the ongoing exhibit, there will be a reception on Friday, September 3rd at 5pm and a panel discussion on September 21st at 4 pm. Join us every Tuesday-Thursday from 4-7 PM, 9/14 - 10/13 in Maxwell Hall for the Hostile Terrain 94 Exhibition. This will be followed by extended gallery hours on Friday, October 15th. HT94 is a participatory art exhibition that illuminates the humanitarian crisis occurring at the US border. UA Toe Tag Workshop (Hostile Terrain 94)

To prepare for the installation of Hostile Terrain 94, the UA community will be coming together to participate in a series of workshops of reflection to recognize those who have lost their lives while crossing the U.S./Mexico border. HT94 is made up of handwritten toe tags that represent each person who has died in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. Honoring their Legacy

Dr. Alexis Davis-Hazell, mezzo soprano, Dr. Luvada A. Harrison, soprano, and Dr. Kevin Chance, piano will perform arias, duets and piano arrangements from major operatic works performed on the historic recital presented by Internationally acclaimed African American Opera singers Grace Bumbry and Shirley Verrett in honor of Marian Anderson the first African American to perform a major role at the Metropolitan Opera. The recital was presented at Carnegie Hall in celebration of Anderson's 80th birthday on January 31, 1982.
