Bio

John Haley is a documentary filmmaker and educator whose stories center on the intersection of personal identity and societal structures. His films grapple with the implications of social policies and structures such as the death penalty and electoral politics in individual human lives. Guided by a minimalist, observational approach to documentary storytelling, John aims to contextualize structural violence and American mythos through personal perspectives and in-depth treatment of human identity. His films have screened at festivals such as the Palm Springs International ShortFest, Wisconsin Film Festival, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival, Tallgrass, Reeling, Sidewalk, Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, Nevada City, and EarthxFilm, among others. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Creative Media at the University of Alabama.
