Flow Tuscaloosa Lantern Parade

May 21, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Join us for the first ever lantern parade on the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk! You make the magic by crafting a paper lantern and joining the parade on the evening of Saturday, May 21. To participate in the parade, arrive at the entrance to the Riverwalk at the terminus of Greensboro Ave (by the Bama Belle) at 7:00pm. The procession will begin at 7:30pm. This is a free event for all ages. The parade will be followed by an “Evening at the Pool” at the Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum across from the Riverwalk. Hang up your lantern, enjoy food trucks, and view the Swimming Together exhibition inside the museum, which tells the story of swimming in Tuscaloosa from 1900-present.
Flow Tuscaloosa celebrates the unique ecology and history of the Black Warrior River and its tributaries, and we encourage you to build a lantern that symbolizes your own connection to our waterways. Please join us for a lantern workshop on May 5 at Kentuck’s Art Night (5-8 PM) or May 6 at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center (5-7 PM) or build your own at home with easy-to-find and inexpensive materials. See our website’s DIY lantern guide and media page for inspiration. These events are family friendly and open to all! Help us light up the Riverwalk in honor of Tuscaloosa’s waterways.
